Very simple outfit below, but I loved it nonetheless. This LBD is one of my favorites: it’s comfortable, flattering, easy to wear, and can be dressed up or down.
Outfit: Gap Outlet LBD (2006), Talbots Wedges (2011)
Accessories: Belt (Masque Boutique, 2009), Jade Shoulderduster Earrings, Assorted Bracelets (tan stud wrap bracelet was complimentary from BaubleBar for signing up; BaubleBar’s now offering $10 off when you sign up for an account)
Occasion: Running Errands (and hanging out with friends)
Vibe: Relaxed, but put together
Close up of bracelets:
I wore this outfit when I went to get a haircut and to visit a friend’s baby. Her baby’s adorable, but while my other friends held the one-week old baby, I refused.
I have a huge fear of dropping babies, so I’d rather not have any potential liability issues. Also, I am known for having some pretty questionable child-raising techniques.
In any event, I was lucky. The baby peed on the mother and tooted three times while being held by another friend.
I, on the other hand, was able to admire and coo from afar…which is also good for the baby because he was not dropped at all.
On Friday, I attended Kasmira of What I Wore 2Day‘s Virtual LBD Party. I also took my previously worn LBD out for another spin.
This time, I added my coral and black bead necklace (gift) and my white pearl strand necklace (bought in the Philippines), my pearl and moonstone earrings (Dasha Boutique), my black lacquer flower ring (gift), my silver painted wooden cuff and rhinestone bracelet (NYC’s Chinatown), and my Aldo silver d’Orsay peeptoe pumps (my wedding shoes!).
My husband said I had one too many accessories on and that I had to remove an item. I ended up switching my flower ring from my right hand to my left hand. That’s kind of like removing an item.
I also added color! Note the coral wrap (borrowed from my mum) inspired by Olyvia of KmartVogue in this post. I tried to style it with a knot in the back as she did, but I wasn’t able to get it to look quite right, so I settled with the casual drape.
I got a compliment on the wrap and couldn’t resist saying, “Thanks, I borrowed it from my mom!” There’s a strange kind of look that I receive when I say something like that, but I always want to give credit where it’s due.
Also, Lola complimented me on my eye shadow application. I spent a good twenty minutes on it, so I was pleased that she had noticed (the green smoky eye takes a lot of skill!).
One of my favorite parts of the night was when we were drinking wine and I made a pseudo Kalimotxo. I’m not a huge fan of wine (I prefer beer), but I do like mixed drinks. I did a 1:1 ratio of red wine and Coke, then added a splash of 7-Up (no lemons/limes were available). It was pretty darn tasty, if I do say so myself.
Although we wanted to stay back and dance with the youngins, we decided that we just couldn’t hang and called it a night. Good thing, too, because my husband and I had to get up bright and early for the next event: my cousin’s wedding.
As I’ve mentioned before, Kasmira from What I Wore 2Day has asked her readers to send her a picture of them wearing their LBDs.
I wore this LBD to church today, but with a grey cardigan:
For night, I switched to a green cardigan, added the opera length necklace, and added some green eye shadow and liner:
Marron LBD (gift from a friend in 2011)
H&M Green Cardigan (bought in 2008)
Mossimo Pearce Camel Patent Pumps (bought from Target in February 2011)
Faux Amethyst Earrings (Valentine’s Day 2008 gift from my husband)
Hematite Bracelet (gift from my auntie in VN in 2008)
Beaded Necklace (gift from my auntie in VN in 2003; I ended up giving it to my mom, but borrowed it for today)
Detail of bow in the back of the dress:
Green eyeliner and eyeshadow:
China Glaze in Wagon Trail (a dark olive green with flecks of bronze):
My husband and I were ready to check out the bar that we were supposed to go to on Wednesday evening, but per usual, after dinner, we got tired and decided to call it a night. That means that I may just wear this dress again on Friday…and that’s just fine with me!
Kasmira from What I Wore 2Day has asked her readers to link up to a post of them wearing their Little Black Dresses (LBDs), and while I have already worn a few of mine on this blog, I still had a difficult time deciding which one to pick.
In chronological order based on time of purchase/receipt:
1. My Mesh LBD from high school (2000, can’t remember the cost, but I believe I got it in LA’s Chinatown for maybe $15-20):
Last posted about here. I decided not to toss it out because I can still wear it as a skirt or with a cardigan over it or a shirt underneath it. The texture of this dress is what makes it interesting.
2. My first H&M LBD (2001, can’t remember the cost; maybe $25):
Probably one of the more classic LBDs in my closet – I bought it to wear at one of the first dances I helped coordinate in undergrad. I’ve worn it about five times; the last time was at my friend’s birthday when I wore it with a black cardigan and ruby pointy toed pumps.
3. My tailored LBD from Viet Nam (2003, approximately $30):
Last worn here. The fabric is silk dupioni; another interesting tidbit is that I broke off the end of the zipper, so I’ve been using a small safety pin to pull it up.
4. My Gap LBD (2006, $7 at the Gap Outlet):
Last worn here; the most worn LBD in my closet because it’s a casual one.
5. My second H&M LBD (2009; from the Madonna line, $50):
The buttons in the back:
One of my favorite LBDs, this dress has been worn to three weddings, including one in Vegas (December 2009):
and last worn in Chicago (August 2010 at the Drake Hotel):
6. My Beaded LBD (gift given in 2009):
Detail of Beaded Neckline:
Last worn here. I’ve only styled this dress one way, and now I’m thinking there are definitely other ways to wear this dress.
7. The LBD I Obsessed Over (2009; approximately $40 from Macy’s, Trixxi line):
Worn to my boss’ wedding in October 2010:
How I would style this LBD every day if I could:
8. My Ann Taylor LBD (2010, bought it on sale for $35 or $40):
Styled simply for a wedding in November 2010:
and last, but not least,
9. My newest LBD, given as a gift from my friend (2011; Marron):
What I love about this dress is that it has pockets, the fabric is very soft, the cut is flattering, and there’s an adorable bow in the back.
I have a couple of weddings and a fundraising dinner to attend next week, but I’m definitely going to choose an LBD to feature before then.
I think it’s a clear winner which LBD I’m going to wear for What I Wore 2Day; now all I have to do is figure out when to wear it!
